WHAT SETS US APART
A relational, personalized approach to neurodivergence
At The Therapy Collective, we believe therapy begins with a safe, trusting relationship where your way of experiencing the world is taken seriously. We make room for your strengths, your challenges, and the parts of your life that may have been misunderstood.
Your therapist will work with you to explore how your needs, relationships, history, and environment shape your daily experience. We tailor therapy to your goals and preferences, drawing from integrative and relational approaches to support greater self-understanding, practical change, and a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
The aim is not to make you fit a particular mold. It is to help you find ways of living, connecting, and caring for yourself that feel more workable.
— How neurodivergence affirming therapy can help —
-

Understand your needs and strengths
Explore your patterns, strengths, sensory experiences, and sources of overwhelm so you can better understand what supports you.
-

Make daily life more manageable
Find practical strategies for routines, transitions, and responsibilities that fit your capacity rather than adding more pressure.
-

Build self-trust and compassion
Make space for the impact of feeling misunderstood and begin loosening the self-criticism that can come from years of trying to keep up..
-

Navigate relationships with greater clarity
Practice communicating your needs, setting boundaries, and building connections where differences can be understood and respected.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
For many neurodivergent adults and teens, yes. Virtual therapy lets you meet from a space you control, which can reduce the sensory load of travel, waiting rooms, and unfamiliar offices. You can dim the lights, use a comfort item, take movement breaks, or sit in the way that feels best for you. That can leave more energy for the actual work of therapy.
Virtual care is not right for everyone. Some people find video calls tiring or harder to follow, or prefer the focus of being in a room with someone. A free 15-minute consultation is a good chance to try the format, ask about accommodations, and decide what works for you.
-
You can seek support while you are still exploring or making sense of your experiences. Therapy can offer space to discuss your needs without requiring you to arrive with all the answers. Affirming mental health support does not inherently require a medical diagnosis.
-
Yes. Therapy can address emotional and relationship concerns while taking your neurodivergent experience into account. The focus is on what is affecting your well-being and how support can be adapted to fit you, rather than treating every difference as a problem.
-
We’re in-network with certain insurance plans (Aetna, Cigna, Wellfleet, Northwell Direct and Meritain Health) and we may be able to help you use out-of-network benefits as well. Coverage and costs vary, so we’ll walk you through your options before you begin. Our team is happy to talk through fees, payment options, and what using insurance here would look like so there are no surprises. We also offer sliding scale options for those who qualify when paying out-of-pocket.
-
The first session is a time for you and your therapist to get to know one another. Your therapist may ask questions about your past and current relationships. They may explore the present, your work, health, social life, family relationships, hobbies, etc. They will listen to what’s hard, what hurts, or what gets in the way of you living your best life. Usually this session is an important time to try and understand the reason you seek therapy. The first meeting is also a good time to go over any questions you have about your therapist or the process.
-
You do not need a diagnosis, a crisis, or a clear goal to start therapy. Many people reach out because daily life feels more draining than it seems to be for others, because they are tired of masking, or because they are making sense of their own experience in a new way.
Therapy may be a good fit if you want a space to be understood, to explore what supports you, or to find strategies that work with your brain instead of against it. It can also help if anxiety, burnout, or relationship strain keep coming back.
A consultation is a low-pressure way to explore fit: you can ask questions, share a bit about what you’re noticing, and get a sense of whether a particular therapist and approach feel like a good match. When it doesn’t, we readily help you explore other options. We have a diverse team of professionals to ensure all clients can find their ideal clinician!
-
Yes. At The Therapy Collective, finding the right clinical fit is one of our highest priorities. We encourage you to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation with one or more clinicians so you can get a feel for their approach, ask questions, and decide who may be the best fit for your needs.
After you submit the inquiry form, our coordinator will reach out to help guide the process. If, after your initial consultation, you do not feel the clinician is the right match, please let the coordinator know. Our Clinical Director is also available to help identify another therapist within the collective who may better support you.
